Corelli Players’ CHEO Benefit Robbed

Ottawa

December 17, 2006

Young musicians, aged 11-15, playing a benefit for the CHEO Foundation, were robbed of $700 in donations Sunday around 2:30 pm.

The Corelli Players and several other smaller music groups performed a Christmas Concert at St Thomas the Apostle Church on 2345 Alta Vista Drive. The concert was to raise funds for the CHEO Foundation. Audience members paid by donation to attend. About 200 hundred audience members were in attendance.

Halfway through the one hour concert, a man, aged about 45, entered the foyer. Two volunteers with the donation box were caught unawares when the man grabbed the donation box and fled the building.

Police arrived soon after.

No one in the audience was aware of the robbery. Parents, who helped the children arrange the concert, thought it best not to inform the audience nor the student players about the unfortunate incident.

After the concert, pleased audience members donated several hundred more dollars.
