Purpose

To provide training expertise in the execution and management of live liturgical events to those who will act as liturgical training resources in their organizations, dioceses, or religious communities.

Faculty

James O'Regan has written about liturgy-as-event in over 100 articles in popular, trade and academic journals. He has offered workshops in liturgical speech and presiding for over 20 years. He holds a Licentiate in Theology from Saint Paul University, Ottawa. Furthermore, O’Regan has spent 36 years working as an actor, writer, and producer in all media. Course Work

Each week, there will be one day of four two-hour hands-on sessions. Three students will be active participants for each session. Those not directly participating will observe. The remainder of the week will include written reflection on praxis and research in liturgical event. The first third of the year focuses on the Body in Event: Movement, Breathing, Voice, Speech, Gesture and Handling. The second focuses on the Body in Proclamation of Scripture: Gospels. The third focuses on the Body in Liturgical Prayer: Eucharistic Prayer. See Curriculum (use your browser's back button to retun here).

Prerequisites

B.A. (Theology), B.A. (Religious Studies), B.Th., or equivalency to include Hebrew and Christian scriptures, sacramental theology, ecclesiology, Christology, fundamental theology, liturgy. As an undergraduate certificate or "minor," the Liturgical Event Theory and Training should have the other bi-departmental courses complete.
